Walk and Talk Therapy

Digging Deep Counseling is now offering “Walk and Talk” therapy sessions. Ask about this option if you are interested!

How to Start

If you are interested in Walk and Talk with your therapist, just ask! We can review the pros and cons and what to do in a variety of situations. The risks of Walk and Talk are mostly the possibility of you or your therapist seeing someone you/they know while on the walk. I can discuss what to do if either of us see someone we know.

Benefits

There is evidence that the movement of walking while processing thoughts, emotions, and/or past memories can help the therapy process. The act of walking requires using your whole body vs just sitting in a chair during a session. This use of the whole body ignites more parts of your brain, so while you’re processing with your therapist, you are able to access more thoughts, feelings, or memories.

You are also out in nature which allows for more moments of mindfulness. You and the therapist can practice utilizing mindfulness techniques out in nature by noticing the wind, clouds, temperature, etc.

And of course there is the benefit of moving your body - all of the physical benefits, but also regular movement can reduce stress and symptoms of depression and/or anxiety.

If you’re a busy parent (or a busy person!), this can tackle two self-care needs at once. You get your body moving AND you get therapy at the same time. Win - Win!

Beavercreek Walk and Talk

The weather in Beavercreek varies greatly, so Walk and Talk is likely not a possibility for every session, but you can do it as often as possible! The office is close to shoup park and kroger- so we would be walking the neighborhoods around that area, there is some shade but not alot- so if it is extremely hot outside (or cold for that matter), walk and talk would not be an option. If possible and depending on my schedule you can arrange to meet me on the bikepath, though this can be rare as most of my clients are back to back sessions.

Before you start Walk and Talk sessions, discuss with your therapist the pros/cons of this type of therapy.

Note about Insurance

I currently only accept UHC/ UMR/Optum insurance plans. Unfortunately, insurance does not allow for Walk and Talk sessions. If you are a self-pay client, you are able to participate in Walk and Talk therapy.
