Inherited Family Trauma

Based on Mark Wolynn’s work, “It Didn’t Start with You”, Inherited Family Trauma is intergenerational effects of family trauma that show up in our own lives. Through epigentic inheritence, a parent's experiences, can be passed down to future generations.

Parents’ stressful experiences can influence an offspring’s vulnerability to many pathological conditions, including psychopathologies, and their effects may even endure for several generations. Unresolved family trauma can leave us with feelings and patterns that don’t belong to us. The traumas of our parents, grandparents, and even great grandparents can live in our unexplained depression, anxiety, fears, phobias, obsessive thoughts and physical symptoms.

By identifying the beliefs and fears that don’t belong to us, we can heal from the behaviors and feelings that we’ve inherited.
